Announcing the Four Fintech Winners of Open Up 2020
14 Oct 2020
We are incredibly proud to announce the four winners of the Open Up 2020 Challenge – Mojo Mortgages, Moneybox, Plum and Wagestream.
The winners were selected by a panel of judges as the best solutions for UK consumers to unlock the power of open banking right now. They will each receive a prize of £150,000, recognising their excellence in innovation and execution, to support them to further develop and grow their products.
The winners were selected from a pool of 15 incredible finalists who have all worked really hard to support consumers in this turbulent year. From apps that help you save to services that help you build your credit score with your rent and solutions that make it easy to donate to important causes, the judges had a tough decision choosing the four winners from the pool of finalist fintechs, each of whom have received a range of financial and non-financial support over the course of the challenge period.
So why should you check them out and what do they do? We found that 82%¹ of people who have tried open banking-enabled apps have said that they improve how they manage their money – and there’s a really wide range of solutions:
Mojo’s MortgageScore™ combines credit scoring and open banking data to determine if you are ‘mortgage ready’. Once a your score is calculated, the MortgageCoach™ feature provides personalised advice on how you could improve your score.
Moneybox is an innovative app that helps you save and invest for your future. You can set money aside through roundups, one-off or regular deposits, and choose from a range of products including Stocks & Shares ISAs, Lifetime ISAs, savings accounts and pensions.
Plum is a clever app that sorts all the tricky parts of money management and makes building wealth effortless. Plum automatically sets aside small amounts every few days, finds better deals on bills, offers spending insights and invests the money to help you become better off throughout your lifetime.
Wagestreams allows employees to stream a proportion of their income as it is earned, save directly from their salary, track their wages and bank balance, and set smart payment reminders in real-time.
The judges were incredibly impressed with the progress all the finalists have made over the past year – and the team here at Nesta Challenges would like to congratulate the four winning teams as well as all the other finalists, for all the work they have done over the last year, making touch decisions to build their businesses in truly uncertain times, supporting people across the UK to build their financial wellbeing.
